ASID UCLA Extension + ASOH

For our 2019 Community Service Project, ASID UCLA Extension selected A Sense of Home (ASOH), an esteemed organization that helps furnish first ever homes for youth who “age-out” of foster care.

WHO IS ASOH?

“A Sense of Home strives to prevent homelessness by creating first-ever homes for youth aging out of foster care with donated furniture and home goods.” Founded in 2014, ASOH has been serving foster youth in the Los Angeles area by bringing together a community of supporters to help foster youth transition into their first ever homes and provide a fair chance for long term self-sufficiency. ASOH has furnished well over 300 homes through generous donations, sponsorship, and hundreds of volunteers, many of which include former program beneficiaries who are encouraged to pay it forward. 

ASID UCLA EXTENSION’S CONTRIBUTION TO ASOH. 

Through community outreach, we at ASID UCLA Extension strive to advance the interior design profession and the power of design to positively impact people’s lives. What better way to demonstrate the impact of design to our future youth. 

And so for 2019, we were honored to work with ASOH!

Through the generosity and support of many design students, industry professionals and peers, we helped raise over $5,000 to advance ASOH’s mission and helped furnish an apartment for two foster youth sisters. On the day of the installation, ASID UCLA Extension board members, along with several volunteers, put their design skills to work, and fully furnished and accessorized the sisters’ apartment into a place they now call “home”.

Working with ASOH was a rewarding experience for all involved. ASID UCLA Extension was able to take on a design challenge that gives back in a way that keeps giving  and to a very deserving family. A video of the installation including the sisters’ reaction as they walked into their newly furnished home is here https://youtu.be/q0HMFCgLsZk.
